Welcome to Funkytown

So this week we’re trying a little something new with Analogous Friday. This definitely won’t be a normal thing, but I want to see how it goes. Usually, I’m the one making all of the analogies, but this is obviously an extremely strenuous process to do every single week, so we’re gonna have you take a swing at Analogous Friday it this week. I know you’ve got it in you, and this week’s video is ripe for the pickin’ for some great analogies to be had in the comments section. Or, you can just watch the awesome video and then peace out :)

Anywho, this week’s video is a doozy coming from the crew at College Humor. It’s an audition tape for their rendition of Death of a Salesman and it helps prove that tie dye really does make anything more ridiculous and that boom boxes are most definitely still “in.” So without further ado, I present to you: Funkytown.

To check out a perfect example of Analogous Friday, give a gander to “Yo Gabba Whatta?”

Have fun don't take yourself or your business too seriously: by and large people like to have fun and laugh

Be remarkable (sorry for the overused Seth ref): It has been said there is nothing new under the sun. Chances are if you take something familiar and show a new perspective it will be memorable.

Last thing: For some reason I now crave Ben & Jerry's ice cream

Jackie,

First, that video is hilarious.

Second: I hope you're ready for me to get meta up in here.

Your blog post is a perfect analogy for the new goal of many advertising and marketing agencies — Create content that spurs user generated content. Arguably, the best advertising and marketing content inspires people to make their own version of a commercial, marketing message, or talk about a product.

Even traditional marketing agencies and old media are beginning to pay attention to the power of crowdsourcing. Check out this commercial advertising the Grammys:

What do your post being the analogy for an analogous Friday post? Ok, my head is now spinning.

Haha, my mind is blown with how many analogies just took place. Not sure if you saw it, but Jason Falls actually just wrote a post in reaction to a Forrester study that talked some about the increased % of internet users who are content creators (http://bit.ly/87XjbQ) and it made me think about exactly what you wrote in your comment. With the % of “creators” rising, the new goal is going to be encouraging people to create that content for your brand.

Great comment, Danny, and have a great weekend!

Don't take yourself too seriously: one of my favorite things to live by :) And your 2nd point is also very relevant. I've had a couple people ask me this week how can anyone attract readers when there's so many people writing about the same exact stuff? The answer, inject your own unique spin on the topic, using your personality and experiences to differentiate it. So I definitely agree with you there.

Did you ever get your Ben and Jerry's ice cream?

Jackie, I love that you encourage conversation here. I feel I better understand your personality in the banter and I like some of the ideas that run around in your (and your readers') head(s).

I don't think the t-shirt dude is particularly funny. Maybe if I knew him. Or maybe if it was edited down to 30 sec. or so. Anyway all I could think of was “Meetings 2.0 – invite a jackass to entertain the troops while you make additional copies”.
