Hello, friends! This is a pretty exciting Analogous Friday as it is the last one where the blog will look like it does. That’s right, take a print screen of it and save it to your computer for a keepsake. Or you can print it out and burn it. Whatever floats your boat. Not that I’m trying to talk it up or anything
If you don’t know how Analogous Friday works, I basically pass along a video to you, you watch the video, I make a couple analogies on how it relates to business, then you leave a couple really awesome comments, and then we celebrate because it’s the weekend! Make sense? I didn’t think so either. So let’s just do it.
Your Job Is Ridiculous
As silly as the video’s concept may be, you know it’s true. Just watch the nightly news tonight, and you’re going to be like HOLY HECK, that dude nailed it. On to the analogies…
Okay, as serious as we all are about marketing, PR, social media, you have to admit that certain parts of our jobs are pretty freakin’ hilarious and, unless we explain it to outsiders, they’re going to keep thinking it’s ridiculous. It almost makes me want to create a video in the same vein as this one for social media strategists or community managers. A line from it can be “After scouring the Interwebz for people who actually want to talk with you, you’re heart skips a beat when you find the one guy who just shat on your brand. After your first tear drop lands on your wireless keyboard, you swiftly move into action.” Who wants in?
British accents FTW. You know it’s true. Ladies defy the laws of gravity with how quickly they’ll fall for a guy with a foreign accent. This has absolutely nothing to do with business, but it has everything to do with life.
I know you can knock my analogies out of the park, so why not put me to shame by leaving your own in the comments?

Jackie, I absolutely LOVE this video! And it's a great pick for your Analogous Friday idea, as I think a lot of businesses act this way. They work so hard on finding ways to slide into the template and maintain a status quo.
When we see a news report that doesn't feel like the example above, I definitely think we notice the report more because it's a step outside the mold. Same thing with movies (I'm a very visual guy if ya haven't noticed). Typical independent movies started off as a way to break outside the traditional Hollywood structure for movies. But even now, one could argue independent movies have developed a template.
Great thoughts, Jackie, and I love this Analogous Friday idea!
Hey Tim, glad you enjoyed this week's video and thanks for taking a second to add some of your own thoughts!
Great point about businesses trying to fit into a template. For some businesses, that may work (look at some of the blockbuster movies that follow the “same ole same ole” formula), but it's definitely not going to get you any accolades for sticking out in the crowd. We need more “indie” businesses!
Solid thoughts, Tim!
