6 Impossible Things (Before Breakfast)

by Jackie Adkins on March 18, 2010 · 13 comments

It’s been a while since I graced you with a video, so here ya go! It’s a short, three minute one, so don’t be afraid. It beats reading 5 paragraphs and hopefully I’m relatively easy on the eyes.

“Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

Note: The quote is actually not from the book Alice in Wonderland, rather one of Lewis Carrol’s other works, Through the Looking Glass.

I think of impossible things every day. They usually entail me dating Shantel Van Santen, running a 4 minute mile, or becoming a professional free-runner/Parkour. I think these might all actually be impossible, except the Shantel part. I hear she wants me.

I was talking to Shantel and she told me she was definitely into you. I often think of myself waking up beside Rachel McAdams and owning the Philadelphia Eagles. (Boo Panthers

On a serious note, Solid video-post Jackie. I think its all fine and dandy to think of impossible things but we have to also remember to try and turn these thoughts into actions. As soon as we allow our thoughts to become our master, we forget that actions trump everything.

Here's a thought. What if you free-ran a mile in 4 minutes and Shantel was waiting for you at the finish line. Did that just blow your mind?

Great point, Ross. Thinking impossible things definitely helps get the creative juices flowing, but you do risk getting too caught up in fantasy land and turning those thoughts into real ideas that can be executed.

Told ya I'd watch it later…

Anyway, great job. I loved that line from “Alice” and think it's something we should all have in the back of our minds. Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it and work hard enough…that's why I will someday marry John Krasinski. That's right, Jim Halpert will be mine someday. And I know he wants me too.

Seriously though, you are completely correct in saying that *some* impossible things have to become reality for some people. My “impossible” dream is to work in advertising in New York City, where the industry is incredibly cut throat and competitive. But I work hard now, so hopefully that'll happen some day.

Oh, and I had the idea of the jet pack first. Just saying.

You're a woman of her word! Between you and Ryan there sure are going to be a lot of marrying of celebrities around here!

“Technically” I guess you could argue that you SHOULD be thinking of far-fetched ideas instead of “impossible” ideas because if you're dreaming about unicorns and jet packs all day long, well, good luck getting Mr. Krasinski to marry you. But still, I think that thinking of impossible things, and then scaling them back a little bit is a good way to think of some amazing ideas. Example: Your idea may be “I want to write an academy award winning film.” Okay, a little bit out there, right? How about starting a web-based tv series? Totally doable.

So I guess what I'm saying is even thinking of utterly impossible things can lead to possible ones.

Thanks so much for dropping by and commenting!

No Eagles fighting necessary! We can do some combined world domination trick where you can run the team in the spring/summer and I get them in the fall and winter. Sound fair?

Hmmm, that could work. But maybe we could run is spring/fall and summer/winter? I'd like to see some season action! ;)
